Introduction

Scores on the Doors is an initiative to publicise information relating to hygiene inspections of businesses that serve, prepare or sell food. Local authorities carry out inspections of food businesses and the results of these inspections can be viewed on this website.

This initiative is supported by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

The role of the Local Authority

The Council is required to inspect all businesses in its area that serve, prepare or sell food. The inspections are done by Environmental Health Officers, and Enforcement Officers who are qualified and authorised to carry out Inspections of Food Business. Inspections are conducted in accordance with a Code of Practice issued by The Food Standards Agency which sets out the manner in which the inspections are carried out.

At the time of each inspection businesses are assessed, in accordance with the framework agreement, against a range of parameters including their compliance with Food Hygiene legislation and their compliance with structural requirements for the premises. Officers also make an assessment of their confidence in the management of the business. Further details of the basis of these assessments and the way in which scoring is carried out are available in the Code of Practice.

Information held on this website

The information shown here reflects the conditions found during the most recent inspection of the business concerned, on the date of inspection. It is possible that conditions have changed since that date. The information provided should not be taken as a recommendation or condemnation of a food business or premises.

Ratings

During a food hygiene inspection scores are issued for a number of parameters. This site uses the scores relating to the parameters for compliance with hygiene requirements, structural requirements and confidence in management, in order to award ratings. These are the elements of the risk assessment that are under the direct control of the business and reflect the way in which the business is managed and operated.
